Ukrainians have a chance to finally defeat those who destroyed them for centuries/LexInform
Colonial education is when you are foaming at the mouth for the monuments to Bulgakov, Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, and the names of Khvylovy, Kurbas, Podmogilny, Zerov, Pluzhnik have not even heard. Well, maybe I heard, but who are they, what did they do, what are they known for – who knows.
This is how they erased memory
This is when you get confused and from time to time time you talk about the “big domestic”, because it is this name that is firmly glued into the brain, and before you correct yourself and pronounce “World War II”, you pause, remembering.
This is when you say “Baltic” , “Kyrgyzstan”, “Moldova” instead of the Baltic countries, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova.
This is when for the first time and quite recently I heard the geographical name Sandarmokh, and until I googled what it is and what it is eaten with. Or not heard. And you don't know anything about that Sandarmokh.
It is not known exactly how many Ukrainian intelligentsia were repressed during the Stalinist repressions of the Executed Renaissance period. Some data indicate the destruction of about 30,000 people.
Thirty thousand, think about this terrible figure! The color of the Ukrainian nation was executed. Writers, artists, lyre players, kobzars (there was no execution of the congress of kobzars, that is a legend, but this did not prevent the destruction of kobzars throughout the country), cinematographers, directors, actors, playwrights, journalists, publicists, translators, literary critics, screenwriters…
In 1930, 259 Ukrainian writers were published, and after 1938 – only 36! Of the 223 writers, 192 were repressed (by being shot or exiled to camps with possible subsequent execution or death), 16 were missing, 8 committed suicide.
Execution of the nation

Nikolay Khvylovy. Neo-Roman writer. In an atmosphere of total harassment and persecution, he committed suicide. 39 years. His works and his name remained banned until the last years of the totalitarian regime in Ukraine.
Mike Johansen. Author of adventure novels. Shot in Kyiv. 40 years old.
Dmitry Falkovsky. Poet, prose writer, translator, screenwriter. Shot in Kyiv. 36 years old.
Geo Shkurupiy. One of the leaders of the Panfuturists. Shot in Leningrad. At 33.
Klim Polishchuk. Author of historical novels. Shot at Sandarmokh. 45 years old.
Yuri Vukhnal. Writer. He wrote novels, humoresques, feuilletons, and essays. Shot in Kharkov. At the age of 30.
And hundreds more, thousands of those who could bring our freedom and independence closer. That's why they destroyed it. Replacing them with simulacra, disfiguring the meanings.
The executioner's manual has not changed
They arranged for us not only genocide, but also ethnocide and linguocide. They destroyed our identity and culture. They pushed us against each other from the inside, severed our ties and tried to create a “united Soviet people.” Our language, historical memory, culture, self-consciousness were taken away from us.
Most of all efforts during ethnocide are directed precisely at the destruction of the national language. And now they want the same for us. That is why they replace, first of all, nameplates in our occupied cities. That's why they burn textbooks and bring in their own.
And our military, while liberating villages and towns in the east, speak Ukrainian to children. To not be afraid. To recognize theirs. Because language matters. For the language killed and kill.
Therefore, there should be no tolerance. Neither to the Russian church, nor to the conventional Bulgakov monuments (to move to museums, with appropriate signs and explanations), nor to the Russian language in educational, cultural, state institutions.
Now this is no longer a matter of discussion. And the question is who and whom. And we need more than just to survive. But also win. On all fronts. There will be no other time.
