In the NOC comments Kalinina stated that the reason for this decision was a cold.
— Unfortunately, yesterday we spent a long time on the courts waiting for the competition to start. It was raining all this time and this morning I felt a sore throat. Of course, I was very upset, because playing in the Olympics and representing my country, especially in such a difficult time, was a big dream and an honor for me, said the athlete.
The tennis player added that the decision was made to withdraw from the competition to avoid complications. She thanked for the support and wished victories to all Ukrainian athletes.
It is known that the Ukrainian will be replaced in the grid by the representative of Australia Olivia Gadecki.
Kalinina was supposed to start yesterday, July 27, but due to rain, all matches on open courts were postponed to July 28.
In singles in tennis, Ukrainians Marta Kostyuk, Dayana Yastremska and Elina Svitolina are scheduled to compete. The pair will feature performances by sisters Nadezhda and Lyudmila Kichenok, as well as Kostyuk and Yastremskaya.
