Ukrainian refugees in Britain will have their visas extended until September 2026

by alex

Ukrainians who, after a full-scale Russian invasion, found temporary refuge in the UK will be able to stay there until September 2026.

The British government has provided refugees from Ukraine with the opportunity to extend their visa to stay in the country for another 18 months, the country's Ministry of Home Affairs reported.

Validity of the first visas, which gave Ukrainians the right to a three-year stay in Britain under programs such as Homes for Ukraine, Ukraine Family Scheme and Ukraine Extension Scheme, ends March 2025.

Accordingly, Ukrainian citizens who are under one of these visa programs will now be able to apply for a new visa while maintaining the right to work, benefits and access to healthcare and education.

To do this, they must apply for a visa extension within the last three months of the validity of the current visa.

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, more than 283 thousand Ukrainians have received or extended asylum in Britain.

Extension of protection of refugees from Ukraine to the EU

The European Union is considering the possibility of extending temporary protection measures for Ukrainians after March 2025, when the relevant directive ends.

The current directive should end on March 20, 2025.
