The Ukrainian military are not afraid of them, – Zelensky on Russian troops in Transnistria/Channel 24
Yesterday, April 26, Moldova reported explosions in the Transnistrian region. Thus, the Kremlin is trying to demonstrate strength and intimidate countries expressing support for Ukraine.
Vladimir Zelensky stated this during a joint briefing with the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Mariano Grossi.
Russia is trying to intimidate Moldova
The President of Ukraine believes that Russian troops permanently present on the territory of the temporarily occupied Transnistria are in constant combat readiness waiting for an order on top.
But we understand their power. The Armed Forces of Ukraine are ready for them and are not afraid of them,” Zelensky stressed.
He expressed support for the head of Moldova, Maia Sandu. At the meeting of the Security Council, she stressed that attempts to escalate the situation in the Transnistrian region involved internal forces interested in destabilizing the situation.
What the President of Moldova Maia Sandu said today, I completely agree with her. We have the same opinion on this situation,” Zelensky said.
He added that the escalation of the conflict was discussed with the Prime Minister of Romania and his delegation.
“We clearly understand that this is one of Russia's steps… It is clear why – for the threats to Moldova – they show them that if Moldova supports Ukraine, there will be such or other steps,” Zelensky summed up.
