Ukrainian children are a target for Russia: how the occupiers violate the law and morality

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that the ruined childhood has become a new reality for Ukrainian children.

According to the information, it all started with the kids of the Crimea, Donetsk and Luhansk regions in 2014, and on February 24, 2022 – for the whole country.

Since February 24 (as of March 28 – channel 24) in Ukraine due to the Russian attack, 143 children have been killed and more than 216 children have been injured. This was reported by the Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for Human Rights Lyudmila Denisova.

Major of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Inna Zavorotko explained that international law and international treaties require respect for the rights of children during armed conflicts. And measures must also be taken to ensure their protection and care.

In addition, she noted that the necessary measures should be taken for the physical, psychological recovery and social reintegration of child victims of crime or armed conflict.

  • Recruitment and use of children.
  • Killing and maiming of children.
  • Rape and other forms of sexual abuse against children.
  • Attacks on schools, hospitals and protected persons, related.
  • Kidnapping of children.
  • Refused access to humanitarian assistance.

“As of March 28, there are reasonable grounds to believe that in the course of an international armed conflict provoked by the aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, units of the Russian Armed Forces commit at least 3 out of 6 types of violations against children“, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine noted.

They added that these were the killings and mutilations of children, attacks on schools, hospitals and protected persons, communication data with them, as well as the denial of access to humanitarian assistance.
