Russian troops sometimes launch unsuccessful attacks several times in their attempt to capture certain places. One of these places was the village of Pitomnik in the Kharkiv region.
The village of Pitomnik is located north of Kharkov further along the highway after Russkaya Lozovaya. Before the assault on Russkaya Lozova, which took place at the end of April, one of the separate battalions of the Kharkov TPO occupied the dominant heights around. This is what created favorable conditions for the liberation of the village by other units. And another unit was sent to the Nursery. The highest and strategically important point here was the crossroads leading to several settlements. There the Russians had their own “fortified area”, which was held by the forces of the platoon.
“At that time, they “dug in” very well. So that during our counter-offensive actions the enemy “did not hesitate” to call fire on themselves. That is, it was such a tactic – we are on top, they are in cover. Our forces were subjected to shelling , they remained unscathed,” said the battalion commander Konstantin.
The Ukrainian units, which included a separate troop battalion, tried to storm the enemy's positions twice. The second attempt was successful. All thanks to the daring actions of our fighters, which the infidels did not expect, so they were forced to retreat.
But the battle for the crossroads did not end there. The Russians tried to regain control of the height. To do this, they used all the weapons they had at that time. The battle lasted 8 hours.
However, the Ukrainian defenders chose the right tactics. And, despite the significant advantage of the enemy in both manpower and weapons (the Ukrainians had only small arms and grenade launchers), our soldiers managed to gain a foothold at the crossroads and above it.
New unsuccessful attacks
After that, the infidels have already tried several times to storm the Ukrainian positions. They made their first attempt at night after their retreat. But the Ukrainian military intercepted their messages and were ready to attack. And the trenches themselves, which the Russians had previously equipped for themselves, were made very competently, so that they played against the occupiers themselves. Therefore, their assault was repelled.
Soon the Russians made another attempt to capture the dominant height.
“This time, the plan on their part was as follows – under the cover of MTLB, deliver personnel in KamAZ to the crossroads and storm our unit again. At 200 meters they exploded on our” mine barrier, “said the terror fighter.
The following night, another assault attempt was made, this time the enemy sent the DRG under the cover of a sniper group armed with thermal imaging and night sights to remove the “mine barriers” on which they exploded last time.
“But they did not take into account the fact that at that time there were already anti-personnel mines there, which they, hastily leaving their positions, left us as trophies. Our sappers replaced all the approaches to the positions with them. Therefore, the remnants of the surviving “guests” soon withdrew to their positions,” Konstantin said.
Constant attacks
Enemy assaults on the crossroads continue from time to time. But all in vain – infidels lose their personnel Thus, the separate Troop battalion, which independently defends the strategic height, already has MTLB, BRDM, etc.
