The attack on the Russian ship in Kerch is part of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ campaign to block the Russian infrastructure in Crimea.
This is reported by analysts at the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
It is indicated that Russian and Ukrainian sources published photographs on November 7 showing significant damage to the Karakurt-class Askold ship, which will likely render it unusable for the foreseeable future.

“According to ISW estimates, since June 2023, Ukrainian forces have been conducting a campaign to block Russian military infrastructure in occupied Crimea, primarily Russian Black Sea Fleet facilities, in order to weaken the ability of the Russian military to use Crimea as a springboard and rear for Russian operations in southern Ukraine,” it says in the message.
On the evening of November 4, explosions occurred during an air raid in Kerch in Crimea. Later it became known that the Russian Askold launch vehicle was damaged, which was being tested for further launch into the sea and striking the territory of Ukraine.
