Prime Minister Hungary argues that opening Ukraine's path to membership will undermine confidence in the bloc, so membership must be taken off the agenda. He assures that Hungary will continue to insist on this, so this issue is not worth serious discussion.

At the same time, during parliamentary debates, Orbán complained that attracting of our country to the seven-year budget would mean additional costs of 190 billion euros. According to him, Ukraine would receive 10 times more than Hungary due to agricultural subsidies.

Given the figures, Ukraine's accession to the EU “absurd, funny and frivolous,” said the Hungarian Prime Minister.

Orban also said that the time has not yet come for Ukraine to join the EU. He said that Ukraine's membership in the EU would destroy Hungary.

What will Slovakia's actions be like

Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fico said that he considers Ukraine unprepared to begin negotiations on accession to the EU, but Bratislava will not block this decision at the summit of EU leaders on December 14.

The Hungarian Prime Minister states that such decisions are allegedly “unfounded.”

The historic European Council meeting will take place on Thursday and Friday this week. Brussels does not rule out that the meeting could drag on until Saturday.
