High Representative of the European Union Josep Borrell announced on Monday, July 22, that Ukraine will receive the first money from frozen Russian assets. According to him, this will happen at the beginning of August, next week.

The funds will go to air defense, shells and defense industry. Borrell said this at a meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council, preported by a Channel 24 correspondent.

In terms of income, I informed the ministers about the progress in preparing the first transfer of 1.4 billion (euro – Channel 24), which is expected to take place in early August next week, the European diplomat noted.

According to Borrell, with these funds the EU plans to finance the acquisition of priority military equipment for Ukraine, in particular air defense, ammunition for artillery, as well as make purchases for the Ukrainian defense industry.

” Thus, we are going to not only provide military support to Ukraine, but also from within Ukraine, which is certainly the most logical and effective thing we can do,” the diplomat noted.
