At the NATO summit in Washington, Ukraine will receive positive news regarding air defense, in particular Patriot systems. US Ambassador to NATO Julianne Smith noted that a positive response to Ukraine's request would be forthcoming in the coming days.

Smith emphasized NATO's sustained commitment to support Ukraine . She also announced a new financial commitment.

Smith noted that at the NATO summit they could satisfy Ukraine’s request for the transfer of seven Patriots.

Ukrainians asked NATO in April seven Patriot systems. And we have a very positive response on that coming in the next few days,” she said.

She also added that “it’s going to be a big week” in Washington. She urged to monitor the announcements, which would send a signal to Ukraine and NATO allies. In particular, Smith announced news on defense production, sustainability and cybersecurity.

The Ambassador noted that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will “feel a strong commitment to Ukraine” from NATO during the summit.

“We will have a financial commitment, according to which both Ukraine and Moscow will very clearly understand that we, transatlantic partners, will not retreat anywhere. As you know, Putin foresaw that we will all turn away. We are not distracted. We are focused on the issue of Ukraine and we are going to stay the course, so stay tuned for announcements of financial obligations,” Smith concluded.

Remember, that the NATO summit will take place in Washington on July 9–11. The main topic of the meeting of leaders of 32 countries will be Ukraine.
