Ukraine will not be given guarantees similar to Article 5 of NATO – Johnson

Johnson spoke about his vision of security guarantees for Ukraine/Office of the President

Ukraine is actively working on the creation of a new document guaranteeing our security in the event of a new Russian attack. Consultations with potential guarantors are already underway, but developing an effective scheme to counter the aggressor on favorable terms for Ukraine is not an easy task.

One of the options considered by Ukraine is a treaty that will duplicate Article 5 of NATO . It says that an attack on one counts as an attack on all. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that it is hardly possible to sign a document on such conditions.

What kind of security guarantees can there be for Ukraine

According to Johnson , Ukraine can count on the full support of the guarantors. He believes that our state needs to be made impregnable to enemies, and this is exactly what the Western partners are going to do.

It is unlikely to be something like Article 5 of NATO. But we can support the Ukrainians with weapons, training and intelligence,” Johnson said.

He added that Ukraine’s security guarantors must do everything to ensure that an attack on Ukraine is considered impossible because of our defensive power.
