Josep Borrell said that the coming weeks of the Russian-Ukrainian war will be decisive. That is why he called on European countries to provide Ukraine with weapons from their warehouses.

The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs said at a press conference in Brussels on February 20 that there are almost twice as many soldiers in Russia as there were at the beginning of the invasion, informs Channel 24.

Borrell urged to transfer EU weapons from warehouses to Ukraine

Josep Borrell said that the Kremlin uses 50,000 artillery shells a day. Therefore, Ukraine urgently needs all available ammunition so that it can repel the enemy.

A high-ranking official assured: “You can have weapons, but you need a ball for weapons – especially for tanks and artillery.”

Borrell explained that in the coming weeks, the best way to provide Ukraine with ammunition is to share what we already have European armies' stockpiles of ammunition.

We don't have to wait for them to be made. It is necessary to use what has already been produced and is in stock, or has already been contracted and will be produced in the coming days. The priority should be to supply the Ukrainian army as much as we can,” said Josep Borrell.

Moreover, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy explained that at a meeting on February 20, the Foreign Ministers of the EU countries discussed how to provide Ukraine with the necessary amount of ammunition to conduct operations against Russia. But he assured that this question is more for the defense ministers than for the foreign ministers.

“And we will present concrete proposals to the defense ministers at the next EU Council meeting on March 7-8,” Borrell said.

He also announced that at a meeting of defense ministers in Stockholm he plans to propose a detailed proposal to increase the production and purchase of ammunition in Europe.
