Ukraine's path to the EU

Ukraine has been proving its right to be a member of the EU since 2014. President Volodymyr Zelensky signed the application for admission after Russia's full-scale invasion in February.

Neighbors supported us in this endeavor. In particular, Poland and the UK. However, there were different opinions. For example, French President Emmanuel Macron has previously made statements that could indicate that we will be offered an “interim version” of the agreement. He said that there should be a new association of countries seeking to join the EU. Ambiguous statements were made by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

However, already on June 16, during a joint visit to Kyiv, Macron and Scholz voiced something else. The leaders openly supported the granting of candidate status to Ukraine.

Following this, on June 17, the European Commission officially recommended granting Ukraine candidate status for EU accession.
