The Armed Forces of Ukraine received the TRML-4D radar station. It is necessary for the German IRIS-T air defense system.
The relevant information was reported by the German company Hensoldt on October 21. The TRML-4D station can detect and track different types of air targets – up to 1500 units in the range of 250 kilometers.
Station for IRIS-T was transferred to Ukraine
As part of an order from Diehl Defense (manufacturer of IRIS-T) worth 2 million euros, one of the TRML-4D radars has already been delivered to Ukraine, and three more will be delivered within a few months. the company said.
Hensoldt explained that the TRML-4D radar:
- uses the latest AESA radar technology;
- capable of detecting, tracking and classify different types of aerial targets;
- in particular, including small, fast, low-flying or maneuvering cruise missiles and aircraft, as well as hovering helicopters.

IRIS-T passed its baptism of fire in Ukraine
Speaker of the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Yuriy Ignat, at a briefing in Media Center Ukraine on October 21, said that the German IRIS-T anti-aircraft missile system, which received Ukraine, has already shown itself during the latest shelling of the Russians.
The extreme shelling we had: IRIS-T performed very well. This information about the baptism of fire of this complex and the verification of its combat capability and effectiveness in combat conditions has passed. This information will be transferred to the German side, which will take it into account, – said Yuri Ignat.
The speaker explained that he could not tell how and where the system works, because IRIS-T is the number one target for the enemy, like HIMARS. Also, the speaker of the command of the Air Force of the Armed Forces recalled that:
- in the coming months we will receive several more launchers;
- the complex has 8 launch containers;
- that is, even one installation equipped with eight missiles is powerful enough to destroy air targets: cruise missiles and drones flying at us lately.
Ukraine is waiting for IRIS-T
- It should be remembered that Ukraine should receive four IRIS-T systems from Germany. It is preliminary known that two systems will arrive in 2022, and two more in early 2023. One system has already arrived in Ukraine in October 2022.
- IRIS-T is an anti-aircraft missile system with a cooling infrared homing head. It destroys aircraft, helicopters, drones, cruise and ballistic missiles. Its range reaches 40 kilometers and 20 kilometers in height, the homing head captures targets from 20 kilometers.
- On October 12, Minister of Defense of Ukraine Oleksiy Reznikov explained that a new era of air defense has begun in Ukraine, because the IRIS-T system from Germany has already arrived, soon there should be NASAMS from the USA.
