Ukraine Reacts to Budapest's Accusations Regarding

Statements by Hungarian officials that Ukrainian soldiers allegedly beat a Hungarian citizen to death in Transcarpathia are not true.

The Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported this, commenting on the statement of the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary Levante Magyar.

Magyar stated that Hungarian citizen Iosif Shebeshten was allegedly beaten by TCC employees in Zakarpattia because of his unwillingness to serve in the army, after which he died. The Ukrainian ambassador was summoned to the Hungarian Foreign Ministry.

Ground Forces Reaction

The Ukrainian Armed Forces explained that Iosif Shebeshten was a Ukrainian citizen who was mobilized on June 14 after passing a medical examination. He was undergoing training in a military unit, but on June 18 he left it without permission, without having a weapon with him.

On June 24, the man sought medical attention in a state of acute stress reaction. He was hospitalized in a psychiatric hospital in Beregovoy. No signs of beating or other bodily injuries were found. The cause of death on July 6 was pulmonary embolism, as evidenced by the forensic medical examination.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces categorically deny any instances of forced mobilization or cruel treatment by the TCC.

“We categorically reject the allegations of cruel treatment or human rights violations by the TCC and SP,” the Ground Forces said in a statement.
