Ukraine needs more than just tanks and other heavy weapons. Our army is also in dire need of aircraft. Yuriy Ignat told why and how many aircraft the partners should provide us with.
On the air of the La Chaîne Info TV channel, the speaker of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Yuriy Ignat once again reminded that Soviet aircraft are on the balance of Ukraine, reports 24 ChAll of them are morally and physically obsolete, so they need to be replaced.
About 200 aircraft are needed
According to Ignat, different types of aircraft our state can replace one – F-16. And all because it is a multi-role fighter that can play the role of various aircraft that we now have on our balance sheet. And it is desirable that about 200 such aircraft be handed over to us.
Moreover, Ignat emphasized,We need planes both in wartime and in peacetime.And all because Ukraine is one of the largest states in Europe. And we really need so many aircraft to make the sky safe.

We should also not forget that the enemy is outnumbered. Thus, the aviation group approximately 5, or even 6 times prevails ours in number.Recall that enemy planes are based at four dozen airfields, both in Russia and Belarus.
Plus, we are inferior in technology. Therefore, the need is serious. It is necessary to create up to 5 tactical aviation brigades with one type of Western-style multipurpose aircraft. What type it will be is now being determined…, he stressed.
Yury Ignat stressed that Ukraine will not be able to receive the required number of aircraft immediately. But we definitelywe need to gradually switch to a new multi-purpose aircraft. This is what time dictates to us now.
According to Ignat, the F-16 is best suited for this. And this is not some whim of Ukraine. Our state is negotiating and consulting with international partners. During them, they determined that this multi-purpose aircraft is an ideal option. After all, the F-16 can perform the following functions:
- ground support for troops, that is, as a bomber;
- attack aircraft on the ground;
- missile interceptor;
- fighters in air battles against enemy fighters and air targets of enemy aircraft.

The Speaker of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine noted that at first, several aviation units may be transferred to our state – squadrons. It will also be necessary to work on the training of the flight crew, aviation engineers, as well as the airfield infrastructure. All these are necessary steps for the transition to new types of weapons.
After that, we are expected to form aviation brigades. There should be up to five of them, and each will contain up to three squadrons. We remind you that 5 aviation brigades have 180 aircraft. Our state needs so much to cover the sky above it.
Let us remind you that Defense Minister Alexei Reznikov went to Paris to talk with the president Emmanuel Macron. They will discuss the transfer of F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine. The day before, the head of state noted that “by definition, nothing is excluded” in this matter.
