Ukraine-Moldova cooperation thwarts Kremlin plans in Transnistria, says Moldovan MP

Cooperation between Ukraine and Moldova is thwarting the Kremlin’s plans in Transnistria, says Moldovan MP Angela Figin

Moldova and Ukraine are joining forces to ensure stability and prevent provocations in the so-called Transnistria. That is why Putin's “parrots” are not very good at following orders from the Kremlin and implementing the escalation scenario.

Moldovan parliament member Oazu Nontoi told 24 Kanal about this. He added that at a joint press conference on January 25, Moldovan President Maia Sandu and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky rejected Russia's claims to be a mediator and guarantor in the so-called Transnistrian settlement process.

How Ukraine and Moldova are ruining Putin's plans

Russia is trying to use Transnistria to destabilize the situation, but the joint efforts of Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova are neutralizing these attempts. In particular, we must not allow the situation in the Republic of Moldova to destabilize, so that the parliamentary elections do not lead to the revenge of Putin's fifth column.

It seems to me that Russia is trying to act according to the same primitive scenario as before, but this time it has found a counter-intuitive solution. The new reality is the partnership between the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine, which is capable of nullifying all these attempts by the Kremlin, Nontoi said.

According to him, all the declarations that came from the Kremlin, Tiraspol or the Russian embassy in Chisinau were generally calculated for a different scenario, that someone would cave in, and the Tiraspol regime would continue to function further.

No, while the Republic of Moldova is not just holding a pause, it insists that the gas supply scheme to the left bank of the Dniester be transparent, given that sanctions are in effect on the European continent, the Moldovan MP noted.

When it comes to the reintegration of Moldova, there is a clear condition – the elimination of the illegal Russian presence. According to Nontoi, more than 70% of the contingent of the operational group of Russian troops are residents of the left bank who have received Russian citizenship. They went to serve not because of loyalty to Vladimir Putin, but for the sake of a contract and rations. After all, it is difficult to find a normally paid job in this depressed region.

The Moldovan deputy is convinced that the Kremlin's goal is to carry out a coup d'etat in Moldova in order to turn the country into a bridgehead behind Ukraine and on the border with NATO and the European Union.
