Ukraine may use Swedish weapons to strike Russia – media

by alex

Sweden is in favor of Ukraine firing Swedish weapons at Russian territory within the framework of the right of self-defense.

Swedish journalist Alex Voronov writes about this in a column for Hallandspoten, who sent a request to Swedish Defense Minister Paul Johnson asking whether Ukraine could use Swedish weapons to attack targets on Russian territory.

Sweden is not against attacks on the Russian Federation with its weapons

— Ukraine is being subjected to an unprovoked and illegal war of aggression by Russia. According to international law, Ukraine has the right to defend itself through military actions directed against enemy territory if these actions comply with the laws of war. Sweden supports international law and Ukraine's right to self-defense, — stated in the written response to the request.

The head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Ermak has already responded to this statement by the Swedish minister, who published four emojis: the flag of Ukraine, the flag of Sweden, a rocket and two hands closed in a handshake.

As journalist Voronov writes, the Swedish government “must argue this position to other Western countries, not only behind closed doors, but also publicly”.

— This is how you can shape opinions, change the course of debate and force states to abandon unfounded positions, — the journalist believes.

Attacks by Western weapons on Russian territory

Recall that earlier several European allies of Ukraine, including Great Britain and Poland, stated that Ukraine can use their weapons without restrictions imposed by the United States.

Also, after the start of the Russian offensive north of Kharkov, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg also entered into this debate and defended Ukraine's right to use Western weapons against targets in Russia.

It is noteworthy that after pressure from Congress on the White House and the US government, Secretary of State Antony Blinken, according to press reports, also plans to prepare an appropriate permit for Ukraine, however, not without a number of restrictions.

On the other side is German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who on May 26 declared that he opposes such attacks with German weapons.
