Ambassador Andriy Melnik once again criticized the German government for delaying the supply of heavy weapons and unwillingness to help Ukraine with the Marder infantry fighting vehicle.

Authorized Ambassador of Ukraine to Germany Andriy Melnyk appealed to the government, condemning the reluctance to quickly provide Ukraine with weapons that had been promised for a long time.

According to Andriy Melnyk, Germany is deliberately delaying the delivery of Marder infantry fighting vehicles, which have already been modernized. BMPs can be sent to Ukraine immediately, but Germany is artificially trying to delay the transfer process.

Dear Government. Why are you denying the Ukrainian army Marder infantry fighting vehicles, which can be immediately supplied by Rheinmetall, while Ukraine is bleeding in the Donbas before your eyes? 109 days of Russian extermination war. Why? – the Ambassador of Ukraine wrote on his Twitter page.

Previously, the German government repeatedly promised to supply weapons to Ukraine, but later stated that the transfer schedules were not known.

  • According to Armin Papperger, CEO of Rheinmetall, which manufactures these vehicles, several Marder infantry fighting vehicles that have decommissioned Germany have already been upgraded and are ready to be sent to Ukraine. He noted that the company is in the process of repairing 100 Marder armored personnel carriers, and the first vehicles are already fully prepared. That is, the company is not averse to handing over modernized units of equipment to Ukraine.
  • Papperger explained that when and where they leave, the federal government will decide. There are already photos of five modernized Marder, the cost of each is from 850 thousand euros to 1 million, depending on the configuration. Rheinmetall also has 88 Leopard 1 and other Leopard 2 tanks in the warehouse for modernization.
  • According to Papperger, the Marder is still a powerful combat vehicle and is used by the German armed forces, for example, in Lithuania. For Marder, which will update for Ukraine, the focus is on the safety of the fighters – they must rely on the vehicle, especially in critical situations.
