Ukraine hopes that on September 15 the European Commission will lift the grain embargo

by alex

< p>Ukraine expects that the European Commission will keep its word and tomorrow, September 15, will lift all restrictions on Ukrainian agricultural exports.

Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba announced this on Twitter.

— No form of continued restrictions is acceptable, as this will undermine the principles of the Single Market, the Association Agreement and trust in the EU’s obligations, the Foreign Minister noted.

Ban on the export of Ukrainian grain to countries central Europe

At the beginning of 2023, due to logistics problems, a large amount of Ukrainian grain accumulated in the countries of central Europe, at a price lower than products produced in the EU. This led to cheaper grain prices and a drop in the incomes of national farmers in Poland, Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania and Slovakia.

In May, the European Commission banned the import of wheat, corn, rapeseed and sunflower seeds of Ukrainian origin.

The European Commission has submitted a proposal to extend the ban on the import of Ukrainian agricultural products into five countries after September 15.

Poland, Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania and Slovakia are in favor of extending the ban grain imports from Ukraine at least until the end of 2023.

The Cabinet of Ministers warned that if Poland blocks exports, our state will apply to the arbitration of the World Trade Organization (WTO) to compensate for losses.
