Ukraine has begun serial production of the new Sapsan ballistic missile. The weapon was tested in combat last month, hitting a Russian military target at a distance of about 300 km.

The head of the Presidential Office, Andriy Yermak, spoke about this in an interview with The Times.

Sapsan rocket: what is known about technical characteristics

The Ukrainian Sapsan ballistic missile can carry 480 kg of explosives – more than twice the payload of the well-known American ATACMS missiles.

In addition to a powerful warhead, the Sapsan missile has supersonic speed – it can fly more than five times faster than sound.

Although Ukraine already has drones that can fly as far as the Kremlin, they are easier to intercept. But the new Sapsan missile is much more difficult to destroy in flight.

There is no official information about the range of the Sapsan missile. However, it is assumed that this weapon can fly approximately 500 km.

Can the Sapsan rocket reach Moscow?

“Things are going very well. I think we will be able to surprise our enemies many times,” Yermak answered the question of whether Sapsan will be able to fly to Moscow.

The head of the Presidential Office noted that he would not boast, leaving the “bravado” to the Russians, in response to the suggestion that after Operation Spider Web, Ukraine is capable of striking all of Russia’s territory – from Kamchatka to Kaliningrad.

“We certainly know how to surprise the world. It's not a bad habit. It's better for you to see something than for me to talk about it. Let's stop there,” Yermak said.

Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelensky said that there were positive results from the testing of the Ukrainian Sapsan ballistic missile. On June 13, he announced work on launching serial production of the weapon.
