Deputy Foreign Minister of Poland Pavel Jablonski said that Ukraine can join the European Union only after the exhumation of the victims of the Volyn tragedy.
He told the Polish radio station ZET about this.
He said that the exhumation process had already begun at the first site in the village of Puzhniki in the Ternopil region.

According to Jablonski, Polish authorities will continue to work to quickly issue permission for the exhumation.
“In our opinion, without resolving this issue, and many Ukrainians also already realize this, Ukraine has no reason to dream of joining the European Union,” said the deputy minister.
Yablonsky also noted that without resolving the issue of exhumation it is impossible to build long-term reconciliation with Ukraine, and the Polish authorities will emphasize this fact.
Volyn tragedy
On July 11, 1943, “Bloody Sunday took place in Volyn – the culminating moment” of the Volyn tragedy, which Polish deputies consider genocide.
On that day, Ukrainian units of the OUN and UPA, often supported by Ukrainian civilians, attacked 99 villages of the former Volyn Voivodeship inhabited by Poles and killed a significant part of their population, the report said.
The resolution also notes that since 2016, July 11 has been celebrated as the National Day of Remembrance for the Victims of the Genocide, during which “more than 100 thousand Poles were killed, often in a very brutal way.”
