Recently, the President's Office presented its own vision of security guarantees for Ukraine. They consider Ukraine as an “outpost” on the eastern border of Europe.
Ukrainian political scientist Andrey Vigirinsky spoke about this Channel 24. According to him, this concept sees the European Union as one of the structural elements of Ukraine's security.
In accordance with this, the Armed Forces of Ukraine should receive investments from Europe in the military-industrial complex, air defense and missile defense systems, various funding, etc. This will help deter Russia from a possible second war.
Just 10 years ago, Ukraine would have had a completely different role
According to Vigirinskiy, Ukraine cannot yet count on a role. Even 10 years ago, the vision of Ukraine would have been completely different.
This is not quite the role that Ukrainians would have wanted ten years ago. Then it was about the “city” between the West and the East, thanks to which it would be possible to receive financial benefits from trade, geographical location, transit of goods, etc. Vigirinsky noted.
Today, the role of Ukraine is as follows. And there's not much you can do about it. It is important that this concept is shared in the European Union. It can be used for further negotiations with Russia when it is beneficial for Ukraine.
Recall, as President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky noted, the Ukrainian military has already completed stabilization measures on 4,000 kilometers of territory recently liberated from the invaders. Similar processes are still ongoing on a territory of approximately the same size.
In his address, Zelensky stressed that Ukraine is actively working to ensure that the strongest countries in the world become its security guarantors. In the event of a potential danger, everything should be defined in detail: who, how and when should respond, as well as impose sanctions, supply weapons and provide material and financial assistance.
