Ukraine Appealed to US for Additional Patriot Air Defense Systems – Sibiga

Ukraine is hoping to receive additional air defense systems from its partners, particularly the United States. This includes the purchase of Patriot air defense systems, which can shoot down Russian ballistic missiles.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga stated this at a joint briefing with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul.

Air Defense Systems for Ukraine

According to Andrey Sibiga, the Russian army has significantly increased its capacity, accumulated combat experience, applies the latest technologies and is actively developing its military-industrial complex.

“The Russian army is no longer the army of 2022. They are also gaining combat experience, they are also applying the latest technologies tested on the battlefield, and they are also investing in the development of their defense sector. And this is a threat not only to Ukraine. This is a threat to transatlantic security,” the Ukrainian Foreign Minister emphasized.

Russia is deliberately attacking our civilian infrastructure to intimidate the population. Therefore, Ukraine is in critical need of strengthening its air defense, in particular its air defense systems, the Foreign Minister emphasized.

“We are grateful to our German friends for their unprecedented assistance in strengthening our air shield. And we continue to count and very much hope that we will receive additional systems from our partners,” Andrey Sibiga noted.

According to him, President Volodymyr Zelensky personally approached American leader Donald Trump with a proposal to purchase additional Patriot air defense systems that can shoot down ballistic missiles.

Production of air defense systems in Ukraine

At the same time, Andrey Sybiga noted that Ukraine wants to develop its own production of air defense systems, and therefore counts on the help of partners, in particular Germany.

“Another area where we need help from our partners is increasing our capabilities in producing our own air defense systems and developing our air shield,” said the Ukrainian Foreign Minister.
