The UK will send 8,000 soldiers to Eastern Europe
About 8,000 British Army personnel will take part in exercises in Eastern Europe. This summer, dozens of tanks will be deployed in countries from Finland to North Macedonia. The British Ministry of Defense said that these exercises were planned for a long time, but after the Russian invasion of Ukraine they intensified.
In addition, the British will be joined by tens of thousands of NATO troops and the Joint Expeditionary Force, which includes Finland and Sweden. Commander of the field army, Lieutenant General Ralph Woodiss, noted that Britain is making a significant contribution to the defense of Europe and the deterrence of Russian aggression.
The British Army's series of exercises is fundamental to both. The scale of the deployment, combined with the professionalism, training and agility of the British Army, will contain aggression at a level not seen in Europe this century, added the lieutenant general.
UK troop deployments are expected to peak at 8,000 between April and June. Defense Secretary Ben Wallace stressed that the security of Europe has never been more important.
“In this exercise, our troops will join with allies and partners in NATO and the Joint Expeditionary Force to demonstrate solidarity and strength in one of the largest joint deployments since the Cold War,” the minister added.
Troops of the Queen's Royal Hussars will also be drawn into the armored brigade in Finland, which has an 830-mile land border with Russia. The exercises, together with the American troops, in particular, will be held in Poland.
Briefly about the UK's support for Ukraine
- British Armed Forces Minister James Gippi said he did not see problems if the Armed Forces of Ukraine will strike at military facilities in Russia against British weapons. He considers this a legal right of Ukraine during the war, as this destroys the enemy's logistics lines, stocks of ammunition and fuel.
- Despite the fact that Gippy's statement caused a mixed reaction in society, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson confirmed that Ukraine has the right to defend itself.
- In turn, the head of the British Foreign Office, Liz Truss, noted that the president of the terrorist country, Vladimir Putin, must answer for his actions. Britain is doing everything possible to support Ukraine and ensure the defeat of the Kremlin dictator.
