Two Ukrainian women killed to kidnap baby: Germany completes investigation into high-profile case

German prosecutors have not disclosed the citizenship of those accused of murder, but local media previously claimed that the suspects are a Russian woman and a German.

German prosecutors have charged a married couple from the city of Sandhausen in Baden-Württemberg with the murder of two Ukrainian women. A 44-year-old woman and a 43-year-old man committed the crime for the sake of kidnapping a baby.

This was reported by the German publication Stern.

The report does not indicate the citizenship of those accused of murder, but earlier local media claimed that the suspects were a Russian woman and a German.

The motives for the crime are said to be the couple's unfulfilled desire to have children. Back in the spring of 2023, they decided to kidnap a newborn child and pass it off as their own.

In January 2024, the woman contacted a 27-year-old Ukrainian woman through a Telegram channel to help Ukrainians with temporary protection in Germany, who was preparing to give birth at the time. When the baby was born in February, the conspirators decided to kill the mother and grandmother.

They carried out their plan on March 6. Having invited the Ukrainian women to a restaurant, they slipped a sedative into both of them, and when the older woman began to feel unwell, they offered to take her to the hospital.

The couple first brought the 27-year-old woman home with the baby, and then took her mother to a fishing lake near Bad Schonborn. There, the man hit the Ukrainian woman on the head several times and threw her into the water.

The couple later took the mother and her child away under the pretext that the mother had a heart attack. According to the prosecutor's office, they went to Gockenheim, near the dam on the Rhine. There, the man killed the young woman. The couple set the body on fire and went home with the baby.

They are accused of committing joint murder in two cases and of kidnapping a minor child.

The seven-month-old girl lived in a foster family for several months. At the beginning of the summer, her aunt, the 21-year-old sister of the murdered girl, took custody of the girl. At the end of June, she returned to Ukraine with the baby.

Recall that in March, in Germany, near the city of Gokkenheim, right on the bank of the Rhine River, the body of the murdered 27-year-old Ukrainian refugee Margarita Razaz was found. Her newborn daughter was kidnapped and her mother was reported missing.
