Ukrainian defense forces on the left bank of the Kherson region found weak points in the Russian defense, catching the occupiers by surprise. Next, two possible scenarios of action between the troops of Ukraine and Russia may develop.
This was stated by the head of the Center for Military Legal Research, Alexander Musienko, on the air of the national information telethon Unified News. He answered the question whether the left bank of the Kherson region is now a weak spot for Russians.
– Yes. Do you know what happened to the left bank here? I think that in many ways the Ukrainian forces found weak points in the enemy’s defenses. They missed our landing and thought it would just be some kind of boat raid. So, they shot, as they say, and went back to the right bank in boats? No, there were other actions here.

Here the stabilization of the bridgehead situation began. They didn't even mine the coast. Not the entire section of the left bank turned out to be mined, for example, as in the Melitopol direction, where it is so dense that they themselves launch counterattacks when they are not using heavy equipment. In the Melitopol direction, they use manpower because they themselves have already laid so many mines that they don’t know where they are,” the expert noted.
The effect of surprise helped on the left bank of the Kherson region
According to Musienko, the effect of surprise played a role on the left bank of the Kherson region, and Ukrainian forces took advantage of the enemy’s weak point.
— The Left Bank is a different situation. What happened? It seems to me that there was an effect of surprise. They cannot help but see our forces on the right bank, because they conduct reconnaissance, have drones, satellites, etc. But they did not think that this would develop into some kind of operation. This contingent, which remained on the left bank of the Kherson region, turned out to be… You understand that there was a small number of people, several hundred at the beginning, two or three battalions acted, and they began to dislodge the enemy. At the same time, our artillery began to work, which uses the effect of heights from the right bank, counter-battery warfare, Western systems make it possible to suppress enemy firing points.
The Russian troops hoped that they would put beacons on the tree and would know where there were possible landings, and would use artillery. When the artillery points were suppressed, it became difficult to defend there. Our forces came in, began to expand this bridgehead, dislodge the enemy, they began to become disorganized, and control coordination was disrupted,” Musienko noted.
What will happen next on the left bank
The expert added that two scenarios can now develop for what will happen next on the left bank of the Kherson region. In his opinion, it is impossible to declare the end of the Ukrainian counter-offensive.
– They have two choices. The first is to try to go all-in, in fact, to make a frontal attack on our positions. But our artillery is firing cluster shells there. Their living force is coming – they are all fighting back, they are retreating. They still haven’t done this because they can’t, they are being beaten off.
If they cannot advance now, then I think they will withdraw. This is one of the scenarios that will happen. They will retreat to other lines, but they will not all go to the Avdeevsky direction. Until the attacks stop, it cannot be said that this counteroffensive is over, says the military analyst.
