Twitter introduced an analogue of Clubhouse. To access it, you need to gain 600 subscribers

Twitter has launched a new feature that allows users to create their own real-time voice chats – “audio space”. An analogue of the Clubhouse, called Spaces, will be fully available to users who managed to dial 600.

A new feature that allows users to join virtual rooms to chat with other people was launched on May 3, according to a post on TwitterSpaces. The first to have the right to create and moderate audio conferences were users of Twitter applications on iOS and Android with a number of subscribers of 600 or more.

The Spaces button appeared at the top of the Twitter feed as “purple circles” showing real-time conversations. Inside rooms that users with fewer subscribers can also enter, it will be possible to send messages to specific users or the entire voice chat. Also, those who have access to the conversation have the right to request the opportunity to speak.

Creators can moderate the conversation, invite and exclude guests, and select speakers. The option of scheduled rooms will also be available: users will be able to set a timer for their creation, and then before the conversation starts, subscribers will receive a notification.

Twitter began testing Spaces back in late 2020 with a limited number of users. It is assumed that in the future this option will play a key role in the development of the social network and will help to reach the figure of 315 million daily active users by the end of 2023. Twitter CEO and co-founder Jack Dorsey has previously spoken positively about the audio format as a new way for people to interact on social media.

Twitter also announced the continuation of work on the Ticket Spaces function – similar voice rooms, which can only be accessed with a purchased ticket. Thus, the developers hope to monetize audio conferencing. Chat creators will receive the bulk of the revenue from ticket sales, while Twitter will keep a small commission. Ticket Spaces is planning to test it in the coming months.

Spaces became one of the first implemented audio chats on social networks, the interest in which flared up in 2020 in the wake of the popularity of the voice social network Clubhouse. According to Bloomberg, Twitter was in talks to buy this project for $ 4 billion, but the deal never materialized. Facebook, Spotify and Slack have also announced plans to create similar audio functionality for their services, and Discord has already launched voice messaging rooms in March 2021.
