The Polish government intends to suspend asylum for foreigners in order to reduce illegal migration. However, this will not apply to citizens of Ukraine.
This was announced by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk during a speech at the congress of his political party Civic Platform in Warsaw, Bloomberg reports.
How Poland plans to reduce illegal migration
— One of the elements of the migration strategy will be a temporary territorial suspension of the right to asylum. I will seek recognition of this decision in Europe, — said Donald Tusk.
According to him, the state should have 100% control over who enters Poland. Donald Tusk believes that people who want to work, pay taxes and integrate into society should enter Poland.

The temporary suspension will only apply to illegal attempts to cross the border from Belarus, said the head of the Polish Prime Minister's office, Jan Grabiec.
This will not affect Ukrainians who are fleeing to Poland from Russia's war. Donald Tusk has said he will tighten border controls on illegal migrants at Poland's borders, despite potential disapproval from the European Union.
— We will not implement any EU proposals if we are convinced that they are detrimental to our security, the Polish Prime Minister has stressed.
Donald Tusk made the statement weeks after Germany continued border controls with its neighbors after years of a migration crisis that Poland says was caused by Russia and Belarus.
