Recently, the governor of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, Pavel Lebed, known as Pasha “Mercedes”, wrote down 15 -a minute video message to Volodymyr Zelensky, where he asked to “protect” the UOC. However, Ukrainian society demands justice and still will not.
This was announced on the air of the telethon by the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Oleksiy Danilov. He said that it was strange for him to listen to the Metropolitan's complaints.
For justice, we must renounce Russia
The Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council noted that Ukrainians, especially after February 24, will demand justice.
If you hide your belonging to the Moscow patriarchy, to people who bless Russian soldiers to kill, then how can you even look people in the eye,” Danilov said.
In his opinion, Russian priests in Ukraine should first turn not to the president, but to your conscience.
Danilov also called on the hierarchs of the UOC not to hide their names. After all, Lebed's excuse that he had nothing to do with Russia was “at least ugly.”
“If you really have nothing to do and want justice, then disown Russia and declare that Putin is Satan. Then it will be fair and just,” Danilov summed up.
Recall that the Constitutional Court of Ukraine recognized the law as constitutional, obliges the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate to change the name so that it indicates its belonging to Russia.
For reference. Law No. 5309, adopted in 2018, provides that a religious organization whose headquarters is located in a country recognized as an aggressor must indicate this in its name. Corresponding changes should be made to the charter of the organization.
At the same time, it is allowed to add “in Ukraine” after the full name of the church indicating the control center.
What preceded this
- On December 1, the Holy Dormition Kiev-Pechersk Lavra was registered as a monastery as part of the OCU. However, Metropolitan of Kyiv and All Ukraine Epiphanius specified that the transition of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra to the OCU cannot be instantaneous.
- Recently, the abbot of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra Pasha (Swan) “Mercedes” during an address to the faithful stated that from January 1, the clergy of the UOC-MP may deprive them of access to the main temples of the Lavra.
- He addressed them in Russian and resorted to cynical manipulation, saying that in the days of the USSR they were allowed to pray, and now they allegedly do dirty tricks “saint , catholic and apostolic church”. For some reason, he did not mention that mass arrests and persecution of clergy and religious preachers were carried out in the USSR.
- After that, he recorded a 15-minute video to the president, in which he complained about life and that the UOC-MP did not receive a written notice of the termination of the lease from January 1 and asked Zelensky to “protect” the UOC-MP.
