An alleged quote from Vladimir Zelensky regarding the fight against terrorism through war crimes was circulated in the Turkish information space. In fact, the President of Ukraine said something completely different.

Fake “statements” by President Vladimir Zelensky in an interview with Turkish media about the war in Israel are being spread online. The Ukrainian Embassy in Ankara denied them.

The president's “quote” is being circulated

A story appeared in the Turkish information space, allegedly “answering the question of whether Israel committed war crimes in Gaza,” Zelensky said that “there are no laws and rules in the war on terrorism.” This quote was distributed by several million-dollar resources, replicated by the media and users of social networks, but the original sources were not indicated anywhere.

The Ukrainian Embassy in Turkey categorically rejected this report. They stated that in his interview Zelensky spoke about those who incite discord and use terror, meaning Russia and Iran, “who are obviously interested in scaling up the war in the Middle East and in involving many nations in this war.” Diplomats explained that it was these countries that Zelensky noted as sponsors of terrorism.

The President noted the importance of protecting all civilians and providing humanitarian assistance to civilians during the escalation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict: “We need to open humanitarian corridors, release prisoners, help civilians… We must stop this war as a whole,” the diplomats explained.

The embassy emphasized that Ukraine calls on the world to “do everything possible to stop the suffering of civilians,” and Moscow is interested in diverting the world’s attention and putting Kyiv at odds with its allies.

What is the Kremlin's rhetoric regarding the war in Israel?

  • In addition to military operations, Israel is also forced to wage an information war, which it is difficult for it to win due to the large number of opponents and criticism. Russia is also making efforts to discredit Tel Aviv's actions. Arkady Mil-Man, the former Israeli ambassador to Russia, spoke about this. In his opinion, Israel is doing everything possible to resist anti-Western forces in the information war.
  • It is difficult for Israel to combat propaganda directed against it, since the Muslim community is much larger than the Jewish community. At the same time, Russia is trying to combine anti-Ukrainian and pro-Hamas rhetoric into a single whole by blaming the United States for both conflicts.
  • Iran and those Muslim organizations that consider Hamas not terrorists, but fighters for Palestinian freedom, act similarly.
