Elena Zelenskaya gave an interview to the Spanish ELLE. She spoke about the role of journalists in Russia's war against Ukraine. In particular, the first lady stressed that the truth is a dangerous weapon for our enemy.

During the conversation, Olena Zelenska recalled how she recently made a publication about journalists killed during the war. In it, the first lady sought to honor not only the courage of Ukrainians, but also those who deliver information every day. And not only in our state, but also outside it.

Truth is a dangerous weapon for the enemy

In this war, truth is a particularly dangerous weapon for the enemy. Today, the role of honest journalists is more important than ever. And they are in the same danger as the soldiers,” Zelenskaya stressed.

If Vladimir Zelensky used to say that we are all presidents, then the first lady called everyone a journalist in the current conditions. And all because most of us have access to the Internet, and can also post everything that happens on social networks.

She emphasized that everyone can describe what they saw, collect information and share stories online. Do everything to bring the truth to everyone.

Several dozens of journalists were killed in the war between Russia and Ukraine

Journalists who went through the hottest spots around the world did not hope for such deceit of the Russian military. Neither helmets and body armor with the inscription PRESS, nor other identification marks stopped the aggression. Several dozen Ukrainian and foreign journalists who tried to cover the truth were killed at the hands of the Russian military. Among them:

  • Viktor Dudar , who died near Nikolaev during the hostilities.
  • Evgeny Sakun , cameraman Live , who was the victim of a rocket attack in Kyiv.
  • Brent Renault , a US journalist and former NYT contributor who was shot dead by the Russian military in Irpin.
  • Pierre Zakrzewski , Fox News cameraman, and Ukrainian journalist Alexandra Kuvshinova are victims of Russian aggression in the Kyiv region.
  • Oksana Gaidar is a journalist who died during the occupation of the Kyiv region by the Russian military region.
  • Oleksandr Makhov is a military journalist who died near Kharkov defending Ukraine.

And this is only a small part of the journalists who became victims of the Russian aggression.

Recall that on May 10, all Ukrainian journalists were awarded the Pulitzer Prize. She was awarded for “an accurate reflection of the horrific reality.”
