Businessman without military experience Sergei Popovich may become the head of the US Navy in Trump's team

Future US President Donald Trump has decided on a candidate for the post of head of the US Navy. This position may be filled by businessman John Phelan, who has never served in the army.

John Phelan has never served in the army. This was reported by Channel 24, citing The Hill.

Why Trump chose Phelan

Trump said Phelan would be an “extraordinary force” for the Navy and an unwavering leader in advancing his “America First” vision.

John Phelan is the founder and chairman of Rugger Management LLC, a Florida-based investment company. He also served as a managing partner at MSD Capital, a private equity firm. At the same time, he has no experience in the military, American publications note.

Phelan is an active donor to the Republican Party and Trump's election campaign. In April, he donated more than $834,000 to Trump's joint committee, and in August, he hosted a reception for the politician at his home in Aspen, Colorado.

The Navy chief nomination still requires confirmation by the Senate, which will have a Republican majority starting next year.
