Trump made a forecast of his relations with Xi Jinping Anastasia Kolesnikova

Donald Trump plans to reduce the presence of Chinese goods in the American market. The newly elected US president said whether he had already had contacts with Xi Jinping.

During the election campaign, Donald Trump hinted that he planned to continue the trade war with China. In particular, the Republican spoke about his intentions to introduce a 60% tariff on Chinese exports to the United States, Channel 24 reports, citing Reuters.

Trump believes that he will find common ground with Xi

However, on January 6, in an interview with conservative talk show host Hugh Hewitt, the politician expressed hope for mutual understanding with Xi Jinping.

Trump said that he had already communicated with the Chinese leader through his representatives.

He described Xi as a strong and powerful man, who, according to him, is respected in China. “And I think we're probably going to get along very well,” the president said.

At the same time, Trump repeated the thesis that China is “ripping off” the United States. The politician noted that he would impose an additional 10% tariff on Chinese goods if Beijing does not do more to stop the trade in fentanyl, which is highly addictive.

By the way, the Republican invited Xi to his inauguration in Washington, but experts say the Chinese leader is unlikely to come.

Journalists also note that Trump has appointed many China hawks to key positions in his future administration, in particular Senator Marco Rubio to the post of Secretary of State. He, like the new US National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, is a supporter of the concept that the biggest enemy for the US is China.
