Why Trump Lifted US Sanctions Against Syria
According to a statement published on the White House website, US sanctions against Syria will end on July 1.
“Today, President Donald Trump signed a historic executive order ending sanctions on Syria to support the country’s path to stability and peace,” the White House said.
The website reports that the order lifts US sanctions against Syria. However, US restrictions will still apply to former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his associates.

In addition, sanctions remain in place against human rights violators, drug traffickers, and individuals linked to chemical weapons, ISIS or its affiliates, and their Iranian proxies.
