Let us recall that Donald Trump recently expressed doubts about the prospects of concluding a trade agreement with several countries, including Japan, CNN writes.

“We've been dealing with Japan. I'm not sure we're going to get an agreement, I doubt it,” Trump told reporters on July 3 while flying aboard Air Force One.

He added that Japan and some other countries have been accustomed to benefiting from the United States for decades, so it is difficult for them to enter into new agreements.

“Japan and other countries have been so accustomed to using us for 30-40 years that it is very difficult for them to conclude an agreement,” he noted.

Let us recall that the 90-day moratorium on mutual customs restrictions expires on July 9. During this period, Washington's trading partners, in particular Japan, are trying to reach a compromise and offer conditions that could suit Trump.

In April, the US imposed a 24% tariff on Japanese exports as part of a new tariff policy initiated by Trump. The measures were later temporarily suspended for three months.
