Separatists from the unrecognized Transnistria, whose territory is a sovereign part of Moldova, announced that they were preparing an appeal to Russian President Vladimir Putin. This appeal is planned to be made on February 28.

Probably, the separatists will ask the Russian dictator to join Russia due to economic pressure from Chisinau . Chisinau has already responded to this “attack” from Transnistria.

Transnistria is preparing an appeal to Putin

Transnistrian oppositionist Gennady Chorba told Moldovan journalists that the leader of the Transnistrian separatists, Vladimir Krasnoselsky, convened the so-called “congress of deputies of all levels” on February 28. It is there that they are probably planning to make an appeal to Putin about “annexing the republic” to Russia.

Chorba noted that he considers it no coincidence that the meeting will take place the day before the planned appeal of the Transnistrian separatists. After all, already on February 29, the head of the Kremlin can announce a message to his Federal Assembly, which will make a decision on approving the request.

The oppositionist also emphasized that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov had previously stated , that “Moscow will not allow its citizens to suffer in Transnistria.” This was a reaction to a rally in the capital of the PMR, Tiraspol, where they protested against “economic pressure from Moldova.”

Finally, Chorba called on the so-called deputies of Transnistria to prevent the acceptance of any appeals to Moscow . After all, this will give Putin “a reason to strike at the territory of the Republic of Moldova, including Transnistria.”

Chisinau reacted to Transnistria’s intentions

The Moldovan Bureau of Reintegration responded to information about Transnistria’s intentions to join Russia. The bureau noted that they are in constant contact with the OSCE Mission and other international partners against the backdrop of reports from the separatist region.

They noted that, according to the information available to Chisinau, so far there is no reason to believe that the situation in the region can worsen.

We are convinced that Tiraspol is aware of the consequences it takes upon itself in the case of unreasonable steps, they said in Chisinau.

Transnistria's statements will have no consequences

  • Executive Director of the Ukrainian Institute of the Future, adviser to the commander of the Ukrainian Volunteer Army Dmitry Yarosh, Vadim Denisenko, in his material, laid out the consequences of Transnistria’s statements about the “Congress of Deputies” and “joining Russia.” He noted that the likelihood of a sudden announcement of the annexation of Pridnestrovie to Russia is close to zero. movements towards Russia. In particular, the main goal of Transnistria is primarily the abolition of duties on goods from the Moldovan side, due to which the separatist republic loses 16 million US dollars per year.
  • At the same time Denisenko noted that before the convening of the congress was announced, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry had contacts with the leader of Transnistria Vadim Krasnoselsky and the Deputy Prime Minister of Moldova for reintegration Oleg Serebryan. Then agreements were reached to work on the issue of restoring consular services in Transnistria.
