Grabsky on Ukraine's transition to NATO standards/Collage of Channel 24

Ukraine has become one step closer to NATO, because we were accepted into the interoperability program that implements technological cooperation between the armies of the Alliance members. This implies a transition to common standards, which can be quite difficult for our state.

There are 2-3 years to go to Ukraine

Military expert Sergei Grabsky told Channel 24 about this. According to him, it is necessary to make great efforts and a lot of time to harmonize the parameters of our equipment and weapons with the parameters and standards of NATO adopted in the world

To make it clearer, the expert drew an analogy with fuel. So, in Ukraine they use different fuels – gasoline A-95, A-92, diesel fuel and others. But NATO has only 2 types of fuel – diesel and gasoline, there is no other.

“Also, NATO has certain standards for weapons and ammunition. For example, the NATO standard for rifle caliber is 5-56, and ours, which we use in Kalashnikov assault rifles – 5-45”, Grabsky explained.

He stressed that the translation of all these standards into NATO standards is a colossal amount of work. Ukraine, with a desire to get closer to NATO, would have had to do it anyway, but you should understand that it will be very difficult.

If in peacetime such a transition for some countries took 5 -10 years, we don't have that kind of time. This, which we could do in 5-10 years, needs to be done literally in 2-3 years, the expert summed up.

Zelensky about the program of interoperability with NATO

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky mentioned about this important step in his traditional evening address to Ukrainians on July 12 . As he noted, the fact that Ukraine became an associate member of this NATO program means that our state will not only implement the standards of the Alliance, but will also be able to participate in the development of new standards.

According to the Ukrainian leader, the insane experience of our military and the country's potential in other areas will be a significant contribution to the development of the collective security of Europe.
