Scandal over parody The Last Supper at the Opening Ceremony of the 2024 Olympics
The scene, which re-enacted the biblical scene of Jesus Christ and his apostles' last meal before his crucifixion, featured drag queens, a transgender model, and a nude singer disguised as the Greek god of wine, Dionysus.

– It was clearly never intended to show disrespect to any religious group. (Opening Ceremony, — Ed.) was trying to celebrate tolerance in society. We believe that this goal was achieved. If anyone was offended, we are deeply sorry, — Paris 2024 spokeswoman Anne Descamp said at a press conference.
Opening ceremony director Thomas Jolly tried to deflect attention from the Last Supper references after the show. He said that was not his intention.
– We wanted to talk about diversity. Diversity means being together. We wanted to include everyone, just like that, — Jolly told reporters.
The Catholic Church in France criticized the segment, calling it a “mockery of Christianity.” However, there were also those who highly praised this part of the ceremony, noting its inclusiveness and tolerance.
Recall that the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympics was remembered for performances by Lady Gaga and Celine Dion, a performance mentioning the French Revolution and the beheaded Marie Antoinette, a reference to the ménage à trois, as well as the actual parade of participants on boats and the lighting of the flame.
