Living assistance for internally displaced persons is temporary and is provided to citizens who need it most. Will payments to IDPs be canceled from January 2024 and to whom exactly – read our article.
Will payments to IDPs be canceled from January 1, 2024?
The Ministry of Social Policy reports that all IDPs who are currently receiving assistance will continue to receive it next year. The assistance will be automatically extended for 6 months, that is, from August 1, 2023 to January 31, 2024. The amount of assistance for all persons living in Ukraine and who are IDPs is UAH 2 thousand, for people with disabilities and children – UAH 3 thousand.
When calculating assistance, the person’s permanent stay in Ukraine, but not in his hometown, as well as his financial situation are taken into account.

Next year, assistance will be automatically extended for those Ukrainians whose financial situation requires additional support, and will be canceled for individuals whose financial situation allows them to make significant expenses without government assistance.
Also, cash payments will not be extended to persons who:
- are abroad for more than 30 calendar days in a row without justified and documented reasons.
People who are on a business trip, undergoing treatment or rehabilitation, rehabilitating children, or undergoing an internship can receive payments even while abroad. These points must be documented.
- are in prison or have been convicted of collaboration.
- are IDPs who have returned to their abandoned place of residence.
To whom will IDP payments be canceled in 2024?
According to the decree of the Ministry of Social Policy, cash payments will be canceled for people whose financial condition allows them to make significant purchases and investments.
IDP payments will be canceled in 2024 to citizens who:
- purchased a land apartment, house or plot worth more than 100 thousand UAH (except for housing received at the expense of the state or local budget);
- purchased a new vehicle, less than 5 years have passed since its production year (except for cars that were purchased by volunteers and donated to the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine);
- have their own housing with an area of more than 13.65 square meters. m per family member in territories where there are no active (possible) hostilities or which are not occupied;
- purchased foreign currency for a total amount of more than 100 thousand UAH (except for currency received from charitable organizations or purchased to pay for medical, social, educational services), as well as banking metals;
- have funds in a deposit bank account in a total amount of more than 100 thousand UAH.
If, based on the results of checking IDPs through state registers, a decision is made to terminate cash assistance, the person will be informed about this by email, telephone call or electronic notification means of the Unified Information System of the Social Sphere (USISS).
