The state of emergency introduced in accordance with the amendments to the Constitution (Hungary – ed. Channel 24) makes it possible, in the event of a military situation, armed conflict or humanitarian disaster in a neighboring country, to have at the disposal of the government all the necessary tools, the embassy said in a statement.
The Hungarian representation in Ukraine explained that we are talking about tools that allow:
- to provide assistance, support and housing to refugees;
- to prevent harmful economic impacts, in in the interests of “mitigation”.
Orbán's explanation
In a video message following the declaration of a state of emergency in Hungary Viktor Orban said that such a move would give his government “room for maneuver and the ability to immediately respond to the consequences of the war in neighboring Ukraine.”
The politician stressed that the war in Ukraine, which “is not visible end” also threatens Hungary, its physical security, as well as the energy supply and financial security of the economy and Hungarian families. and a sharp rise in prices. The world is on the verge of an economic crisis, Orban said.
Reaction in Ukraine
Advisor to the Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Mykhailo Podolyak is convinced that the introduction of a state of emergency in Hungary is a PR position Orban .
