Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said that after the end of Russia's war against Ukraine, Slovakia should prepare to normalize relations with Russia. But Fico and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban are useful both for the Kremlin and for individual European countries.

International political scientist Ruslan Osipenko told Channel 24 about this, noting that this is why these politicians are dangerous. He added that this is an element of Russia's larger strategic plan.

“Russia, losing on the battlefield, implements these information and psychological operations,” Osipenko emphasized.

This is because Russia’s war against Ukraine is multifaceted and continues, in particular, in the information sphere. Therefore, Moscow’s main efforts are aimed at disrupting unity and solidarity in the EU and the US regarding support for Ukraine. And also – to undermine the political situation in Ukraine.

Orban and Fico carry out tasks in Europe. They lead the European direction. Some countries of the European Union benefit from the fact that they have created such a “mini-union” and are blocking the EU’s plans to support Ukraine, the international political scientist is convinced.

This is because Europe is heterogeneous and Some countries doubt whether such a large country as Ukraine is needed in the European Union. However, they would not like to talk about this publicly.

“Orban and Fico came in handy here, they seem to work for the Kremlin, but they simultaneously work for the dissatisfied within Europe,” said Ruslan Osipenko.

They are afraid of reforms

When Ukraine becomes a member of the EU, for example, there will be a redistribution of political influence in the European Parliament. There will also be a distribution of financial flows. Countries in Southern Europe may not receive subsidies.

“Some hint at security issues. That if we accept Ukraine, then this is a “time bomb” under the European community. “Russia will come to finish the war and we will stumble upon danger,” noted the international political scientist.

There is also dissatisfaction with economic, logistics and trade issues. The countries of Central and Eastern Europe are not ready to compete with Ukraine in these areas. They especially talk about agrarian issues. This is why Robert Fico and Viktor Orban do their jobs.

Osipenko believes that European countries are actually afraid that Ukraine will join the EU, and then it will have to be seriously reformed. In particular, the economy. It will also be necessary to change the voting rules so that there is no possibility of blocking. And also to create new security structures.

Rhetoric of Fico and Orban

  • The Prime Minister of Slovakia said that Russia’s war against Ukraine is a “frozen conflict.” Therefore, they say, it allegedly cannot be completed if the Ukrainian army is provided with weapons. Robert Fico noted that countries should start negotiations.
  • Meanwhile, the Slovak parliament approved a government program that provides for the cessation of military assistance to Ukraine.
  • The Hungarian Prime Minister believes that the issue of Ukraine's membership in the European Union should be postponed. They say that accession negotiations “do not correspond” to the interests of his country.
  • In addition, Viktor Orban once again said that Ukraine supposedly “will not be able” to defeat Russia in the war. He also criticized Western countries for helping the Ukrainian army.
