— I started it with events at Babi Yar. 82nd anniversary of the mass execution of Jews by the Nazis at Babi Yar. In just a few days of September 1941, more than 30 thousand people were killed. In total, about 100 thousand people were killed in Babi Yar during the Nazi occupation. Jews, also Roma, Ukrainians. Representatives of other nations, — he said.
The head of state emphasized that today it is very important to preserve the memory of those victims and the evil that carried out the Holocaust, and then was defeated and punished.
— Ukraine cherishes such memory. Never again! For us, for Ukraine, for the entire civilized world — these are not empty words. And it will always be like this. It is very symbolic that today I met with our Ukrainian teachers — those on whom, in fact, the preservation of historical memory and, in many respects, humanity depends. This Sunday Ukraine will celebrate Teacher's Day — Day of Workers and Women in Education, — the president said.
At the same time, Vladimir Zelensky noted that training — it is always more than acquiring knowledge and skills and mastering a profession: “This is character, its strength. This is the clarity of distinction between good and evil that comes when you study human culture”.
— Education prepares and adjusts the moral compass of a person so that he works and so that through this a person’s work, a person’s life, enriches humanity. It is very important. And we see, in particular, from what Russia is doing, what it is like when the education system goes bankrupt. When the moral compass of people and the entire society is broken. Evil then reigns in such a country, — he said.
Vladimir Zelensky emphasized that this will never happen in Ukraine and this is not only thanks to the power of weapons, but also thanks to the strength of spirit and the strength of Ukrainian characters — “humanity, which will definitely win”.
