In Poland, they studied how the country's attitude towards refugees from Ukraine who left because of the war with Russia has changed. To this end, two surveys were conducted in Poland during the year and their results were compared.

The survey was conducted by the University of Warsaw and the University of Economics and Humanities in Warsaw. In general, the results of the polls show that the positive attitude of the Poles towards the Ukrainians and assistance to them, mainly military, has practically not changed since the beginning of the war.

Social perception of refugees has changed in Poland from Ukraine

The researchers compared the results of similar surveys conducted in April 2022 and January 2023 and recorded the difference in the attitude of Poles towards Ukrainians. We are talking about the social perception of refugees from Ukraine.

Robert Staniszewski, head of the research department at the University of Warsaw, said that a quarter of respondents in January answered that their attitude towards Ukrainians had changed in six months.

It is reported that 68% of respondents said that attitudes have changed for the worse. It has become difficult for Poles to identify Ukrainians who speak the language of the enemy, that is, Russian.

Miroslav Skurko, president of the Union of Ukrainians in Poland, noted that Poles are annoyed that refugees from Ukraine mainly speak Russian. Therefore, the Poles lose the idea of who the Ukrainians really are.

He also spoke about the differences in culture, noting the “remnants of the Russian world” in the behavior of some Ukrainians.

Most of Poles support military aid to Ukraine

It should be noted that, compared to April 2022, the importance of Ukrainian nationalism has decreased for Poles.

In Poland, division in the society of additional aid is fixed Ukraine. Already more than a third oppose additional assistance to Ukraine. However, the majority still support additional assistance to Ukraine – 48%.

Respondents believe that Poland should help Ukraine mainly militarily, providing intelligence, ammunition and weapons.
