In the capital of Bashkortostan, Ufa, on January 19, a repeated protest rally was held in support of the convicted activist Fail Alsynov. He was given four years in prison for “inciting ethnic hatred.” Bashkir singer Altynay Valitov spoke in support of Alsynov. He recorded an emotional video message, broadcast Channel 24. Valitov emphasized that the convicted Alsynov was a national hero who fought for the Bashkir language and Bashkir lands. It was thanks to him that they managed to defend the Kushtau Mountains and stop gold mining in the villages.Every Bashkir feels infringed< /h2>
Alsynov was accused of nationalism, but the root of all problems is Russian nationalism. According to Valitov, Bashkirs are oppressed on ethnic grounds in all areas, in particular they can be fired from their jobs.
Why Russians in Ufa they walk around with the words “Russia is for Russians” and they are not imprisoned? But a Bashkir who speaks out in defense of his people is imprisoned on his own land. Why?! – Valitov said with tears in his eyes.
Then the singer himself answered his own question. This is because the Bashkirs are a national minority. If they swallow this, a people with a thousand-year history will disappear. Therefore this will not happen.
“This is the end of a multinational country,” Valitov summed up.
Protests in Bashkiria: the main thing
- The riots began on January 15 in Baymak. They acquired large proportions on January 17, when the final court hearing of activist Fail Alsynov took place.
- Injuries and detainees were reported. One of the Bashkir women recorded a video message in which she called on her fellow countrymen to return to their homeland “to protect their land and their people.”
- National Security and Defense Council Secretary Alexey Danilov reacted to the events in Bashkortostan. In his opinion, protests could lead to the collapse of Russia, for which the West should prepare.
