German Chancellor Olaf Scholz does not agree with the idea of banning Russian citizens from entering The European Union.
They say that the EU has taken many measures and personal sanctions against supporters of “power structures in Russia.” In particular, against the Russian oligarchs. Scholz notes that the restrictions will continue.
The chancellor said this at a press conference, commenting on the emerging statements, writes Merkur.
According to him, dictator Vladimir Putin is responsible for the invasion of Ukraine. “This is Putin's war. And that's why it's hard for me with this idea,” Scholz said.
Scholz notes that he does not consider imposing punitive measures against all Russian citizens justified. Like, this would seem to weaken the effectiveness of the sanctions.
“If we direct sanctions against everyone, including against the innocent, it will rather weaken the measures taken,” he added.
Recall that Estonia has decided to close the borders for citizens of the Russian Federation with Schengen visas issued by the republic, with some exceptions. In particular, it will be open to employees of a diplomatic mission or a consular post located in Estonia and members of their families.
