One of the leaders of the Ukrainian national football team and a player of the London Arsenal Alexander Zinchenko admitted that he misses his homeland and spoke about the responsibilities of Ukrainian athletes abroad.
In an interview with the authoritative British publication The Athletic, he said that Ukrainians cannot afford to be tired of war. First, Zinchenko recalled the bloody war that Russia unleashed against Ukraine.
— I tell myself and my wife that I really want to be in Ukraine, because it is my homeland. Watching and following the news, where almost every day people are dying for no reason, you just ask yourself: what are they (the Russians, — Ed.) trying reach? — he says.
The publication writes that two years have passed since the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation into Ukraine, and in the meantime, the Ukrainian national team is awaiting the playoff qualifying match for Euro 2024, where it will play with Bosnia and Herzegovina in the semi-finals in March. And coverage of the war in Ukraine in the world media has decreased somewhat due to other hot spots, in particular the war in Israel and the Gaza Strip.

— Perhaps some people are tired of the war, but all of us, Ukrainians all over the world… we cannot get tired of this, because this is our life, this is our country. It is very difficult to be away from your country. We need to talk about this more and that's what we're trying to do. Ukrainians who play football, tennis, boxing abroad — we must represent our country. This is our duty, — said Zinchenko.
The footballer added that everyone who has a Ukrainian passport should do everything possible to make Ukraine’s victory much closer.
Zinchenko noted that “any victories of Ukrainians give great emotions to the people who are fighting for our freedom”. Alexander said: Many heroes on the front line watch football.
