The United States of America denied that they allegedly intended to dispose of hundreds of ATACMS systems and missiles for them produced by Lockheed Martin, which had expired.
This was stated by US Department of Defense spokesman Patrick Ryder during a briefing on January 4, answering questions from journalists. He was asked to comment on the Newsweek story about the disposal of ATACMS and why they will not be sent to Ukraine.
— We have verified these reports and they are not true. This is not true, — said Ryder.
However, Defense Ministry spokesman Ryder did not specify whether the United States plans to transfer ATACMS installations and missiles to them to Ukraine.

What was reported about “disposal of ATACMS”
Journalists from Newsweek reported that the United States allegedly intends to dispose of hundreds of ATACMS installations and missiles for them.
Adviser to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Daniel Rice called these missiles legal high-precision cluster weapons.
In his opinion, these installations and ATACMS missiles could be transferred to Ukraine. He believes that the expiration date — this is not a problem because they are still usable for many years.
Does the shelf life of missiles really matter — explanation
— They work. Any weapon is eventually replaced by better, more lethal and cost-effective ones. The M39s add range, accuracy and lethality that Ukraine lacks without them, — he noticed.
Former commander of US Army Europe Ben Hodges believes that refusing to transfer ATACMS due to its expiration date would not be a security decision, but a political move.
The key point in the matter of suitability is the preservation of the solid-fuel rocket engine, said Fabian Hinz, a researcher at the International Institute for Strategic Studies.
