Romania cannot shoot down enemy Shaheds over Ukrainian territory, because it does not have the appropriate permission from its partners. Russian drones near the Danube are usually shot down by Ukrainian defenders.

This was stated by Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu. With this statement, he once again denied that his country did not shoot down the Shaheds, the wreckage of which recently fell on Romanian territory.

Why Romania does not shoot down the Shaheds

The Romanian minister emphasized that his country does not have the ability to shoot down the Shaheds over Ukrainian territory. So, there is no corresponding permission for this.

In order to shoot them down, we must open fire on Ukrainian territory, and I believe that this has not yet been authorized, I have not heard of any decision on this issue, – Ciolacu said.

The Romanian Prime Minister added that enemy drones on the border are usually shot down by Ukrainian defenders. Ciolacu also noted that there is no threat to Romanian citizens on the border with Ukraine, where debris from downed drones may fall. In addition, the head of the Romanian government said that after the previous incidents, “security measures and increased airspace patrols” were taken.

In addition, the Romanian Foreign Ministry summoned the Russian chargé d'affaires due to incidents with the Shahed drones that violated Romanian airspace.

Thus, Romania has issued a strong protest to the Russian diplomat. The representative of the Romanian Foreign Ministry also condemned the countless attacks on civilian infrastructure in Ukraine.

The Foreign Ministry also emphasized the irresponsibility of military strikes, including in close proximity to the Romanian border, which threaten the country's national security.
