“I can say with confidence that this is my last year as a football player,” Yarmolenko said.
According to him, he decided to stay for another year after talking with the management of the Kyiv club. Yarmolenko said that he spoke about this with head coach Oleksandr Shovkovskiy and the president of the club.
— It was important for me to feel that I was needed as a footballer. I don’t want to be in the club as a footballer for any of my past achievements. When I heard their opinion, I understood that they were counting on me as a combat unit. That’s why I signed a contract for another year, — the footballer said.
In the 2024/25 season, Yarmolenko played 33 matches in all tournaments, scoring 12 goals. He also has one assist. In October last year, Yarmolenko became the tenth player in history to play 500 matches for Ukrainian teams.
He also continues to play for the Ukrainian national team, but was not called up for the friendly tournament in Canada.
In the fall, the Ukrainian national team will start the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. The opponents of Serhiy Rebrov's team will be the national teams of France, Azerbaijan and Iceland.
